Cycling in London Bridge – Take part in Cycle to Work Day
With the news that regular cycling to work cuts the risk of death by over 40%, and the incidence of cancer and heart disease by half, the question might be why more people don’t cycle. If safety is the reason (it often is, particularly in London), then the evidence suggests otherwise.

Cycle to Work day (Cycle2Work – C2W) day on April 26th 2017.

We at Team London Bridge are going to support as many people as possible to get into cycling over the coming years and have started to invest time and money in measures to support this.

A simple first step (or pedal) is to wholeheartedly support Southwark Cyclists’ Cycle to Work day on April 26th 2017. Everyone is invited to take part, but we are particularly keen to support new cyclists – and we encourage more experienced cyclists to buddy up with a colleague and find safe routes.

Why not join one of the Southwark Cyclists Bike Trains – the North Dulwich ‘train’ will arrive at London Bridge at 8.40am (beginner’s speed). Dr Bike will be fixing bikes in Tooley Street for free (next to the London Bridge Experience) from 5.30 to 7.30pm (and returning every month over the summer - 24th May, 28th June, 26th July, 23rd August, 27th September).

Win prizes

Please help promote by forwarding this article to interested colleagues. And printing off a poster (today!) and putting it on your notice board.

We will be offering prizes for the best tweeted picture of buddies arriving at work. Tweet @southwarkcycle or @TeamLondonBdg using #cyclebuddy or #cycle2work

TfL Cycling Workplaces

As the resident cyclist at Team London Bridge, I have made my commitment to cycle to work day by signing Team London Bridge up to TfL’s Cycling Workplace scheme, and will be getting a business account for Santander cycles – and inviting colleagues to join me on a lunch trip along the new embankment cycle path.

New Quietway under construction

You may have noticed that the new Quietway is being constructed along Snowsfields – and yes, you may too have noticed periods of traffic chaos! Quietway 14 will create a safe, low (or no) traffic route between Tower Bridge Road and Blackfriars. The work is happening in stages – with the section outside Guys Cancer centre the first planned for completion – along with new paving and street trees. The rest of the route will be completed over the summer, and Southwark will be providing details of the works, which we will notify businesses of as they happen.

Get involved – London Bridge Cycle Forum

To deliver more cycling work, we will be engaging with our work and residential communities to find out how we best champion it more widely and ensure that the streets and routes leading to London Bridge are safe.

Please come along to our inaugural cycle forum on Tuesday 16th May 8.30 – 9.30am at our new community space - the Hive. We will discuss cycle routes, cycle promotions, parking – I’d really like to hear your thoughts. To register your attendance, please RSVP.  jack@teamlondonbridge.co.uk
